My huge opening

Hello my dears…

It is I, Wendy… First lady of the West End! Welcome to the first of my official weekly blogs…. Rounding up all the goings on ’neath the bright lights of Theatreland!

Firstly… a HUGE spanking THANKYOU to everyone who attended the first West End Wednesday last Wednesday night! I think its fair to say that Wendy’s huge opening was a big hit! Handsome Latino waiters, a break-dancing dance off and flowing cocktails… it really did feel like being back at Break for the Border, didn’t it my loves? It was great to see so many lovely West-End faces there aswell… The Dirty Dancing cast were dancing dirty, the Mamma Mia ladies all scrubbed up a treat and was that Fame’s Desi Valentine I spied grinding his hot bootie on my dance floor?? Maybe it was…. Some shows were sadly unrepresented, and I hope that they will be able to come down and join me this Wednesday for more fun and fecundity! Also my babies, look out for some up and coming theme nights down at the Costa Dorada. Wendy knows you all love to dress up, so watch this space!

Now then… this week’s gossip. I donned a beautiful frock this week to attend the European Prem of The Lord of the Rings, at the sacred hallows of the Drury Lane. My goodness darlings, that theatre was HOT! And, having forgotten my Japanese kabuki
fan, I was forced to cool my brow by frantically waving my programme back and forth like some sort of over-eager auction-goer!! However, the temperature did not distract from my overall enjoyment of the piece. Its visual ’set-pieces’ are breathtaking and unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. (And I’ve seen EVERYTHING!) For unseasoned hobbit-followers I do think the story may be a little confusious and tricky to follow, and for me I didn’t feel like the show has a stand out tune, but a certainly a stand out performance came from the ‘practically perfect’ Laura Michelle Kelly as The Golden Lady ‘Galadriel’. Yes, the only thing in the show that is higher than LMK’s angel-like soaring voice is the pair of delicious golden platform-shoes she wears! Brava dear lady, Brava!

Thursday night saw the mid’knight’ matinee of Spamalot down at the Palace. The entire cast were on fine form to entertain their West End colleagues in the late night one-off, and a couple of ‘in-house’ jokes went down a storm. Some of Wendy’s spies inform her that a small, elite little party was held in The Lady of the Lake’s dressing room post show, and a veritable lake of alcohol was consumed! Such decadence!! Well done my dears… Wendy is proud of you!!!

So my darlings that’s all for now. What a busy week its been. I am off to recharge my glamour-batteries in the South of France for the weekend, but fear ye not…. My spies will be on patrol in my absence. Remember: Wendy sees all. And she hopes to see you all again on Wednesday night for West End Wednesday!

Chookas dearies!

Hello DARLINGS!!!!!

Welcome, welcome one and all to my glamorous little corner of the world wide web!!! If you are reading this then… CONGRATULATIONS DARLING! ..as this means you are already a part of my beautiful, exclusive, theatrical movement. You lucky so and so….Thrilling.. Isn‘t it?.
Allow me to introduce myself formally… My name is Wendy. Full name? West End Wendy. Plain and simple… You think you may have heard of me before? Well, let me tell you, you haven’t. You may have heard of imposters to my title before… namely skinny chorus boys, leggy divas or similar, but let me say from here on in… I am the only ‘Wendy’ you will need to know about.
“Its nice to meet me…. Isn’t it?”
Let me explain to you who I am my darlings, and what you can expect from your Wendy. Wendy is the Mother of Musical Theatre. Wendy is the sister of Showbusiness. I am glamour, I am sparkle. I am the heart and lungs of the West End. And for you, the beautiful talented people of this wonderful industry… I am the voice.
Yes, from now on I am your first point of call. The gossip, the openings, the closings, the who’s who, the who’s doing who and the who’s doing nothing- Wendy sees it all. I am everywhere. At every opening night, at every midnight matinee, at auditions, at recalls Wendy will be there. I will be in your audiences, I will be in your dressing rooms. (I also have several musician friends so there is a healthy chance I may be in your PITS!)
From now on my dears anything and everything that happens in the West End will be seen and will be talked about on my new, honest and open website… http://www.westendwendy.biz/.
No one escapes my eyes and ears so take care my darlings, for even if you sneeze in my West End… I shall be inside your tissue.

You can join me my dears, once a week, to celebrate everything that is fun in our lovely little industry, in an evening I am calling West End Wednesday. The lovely jonnies down at the Costa Dorada bar are opening its doors every Wednesday for us my babies to lift a cup a wine together in reverence of all the hard work we do entertaining the masses nightly. The drinks shall be cheap, the music shall be lively, the dance well executed… and as it is hosted by me, Wendy, each Wednesday night will have its own little bundle of cheeky surprises! Sublime!!!

I desperately wish to see you there my angels, if not this week for my opening, then next week… and please please visit my 2 internet boudoirs next week, both on myspace and at http://www.westendwendy.biz/ as in the first of my weekly, candid blogs I shall be giving my Wendy’s eye view on all the goings on at The Lord of The Rings Press night, reviewing ‘The Drowsy Chaperone’ and also publishing my first interview… ‘Coffee with Kerry Ellis’.

Ta Ta for now sweethearts, and see you tonight!!!
